Equal Parts on Hackney Road is very nice. An interesting cocktail list and not too expensive. A guest came to our bar who works at Sager + Wilde, and she mentioned they also have a cocktail bar called Equal Parts. So I was in Dalston having dinner with a friend, and we decided to check it out after. I had a drink with tomato water which was really refreshing.

Equal Parts brings rustic charm and precision-crafted cocktails to the Hackney Road. In a Grade-II listed building, it's all exposed plaster, reclaimed lighting and vinyl soundtracks. Amping up the sophistication is the drinks list. There are two key components here - classic short cocktails composed of "equal parts" spirits and mixer and its legendary signature serves. Whatever you order, expect at a least a touch of experimentation, from olive-oil-washed vodka martinis to scotch bonnet-infused raw chilli palomas.

London has been overrun with ‘listening bars’ in the last couple of years, but few, if any, take such a fastidious approach to their drinks list as this Hackney Road specimen. Partly inspired by Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks, the decor is similarly atmospheric; all dark wood and mid-century furnishings. The cocktail list is divided into two main sections. ‘Equal Parts’ highlights short, strong drinks made with equal measures of each ingredient, while ‘Signatures’ features more unique recipes incorporating a variety of trendy ingredients: think mezcal, calvados and plenty of savoury components.

London has been overrun with stylish listening bars recently, but few, if any, take such a fastidious approach to their drinks list as this wondrous Hackney Road specimen from Michael Sager, of neighbouring wine bar Sager + Wilde. This green-tiled treasure might have only opened at the end of 2023, but it has fast become a London cocktail classic.

If there’s one London bar on everyone’s lips right now – from industry insiders to serial barflies, it’s Equal Parts, the latest venture from the team behind the renowned East London wine bar, Sager + Wild. Opened a little over two years ago, with next to no fanfare, its classy, unpretentious direction focuses on a list of a dozen cocktails, four of which are, as the name suggests, all made up from equal measures... In essence, if you’re looking for the perfect definition of the ‘bartender’s bar’, it’s this.
