One thing we know about the team at Viajante87 is that they take both cocktails and culture extremely seriously. So we weren’t particularly surprised to hear that their latest menu is called, well, Cocktail x Culture. Following the format of the previous collection, the menu focuses on the flavours of Latin America. But here’s what we particularly love: it’s cleverly divided into five sections: Be Comfortable (‘where guests are eased in with approachable yet subtly innovative serves’), Be Curious (‘this section invites guests to explore cocktails that highlight unique Latin American ingredients while retaining a familiar structure’), Be Courageous (where guests ‘will find themselves in uncharted yet thrilling territory’, Be Present (‘a celebration of communal drinking, where cocktails are designed to be shared, evoking the warmth of Latin American hospitality’) and Be Involved (‘an interactive bespoke journey where guests collaborate with bartenders to create a personalised drink’). We can’t wait to try the entire menu but we’re particularly drawn to the two pictured here and also Domingo El Cali, blending soursop, sotol and a hint of corn husk ash, a crystal-clear cocktail that we’re told is bursting with layers of bright, tropical complexity.

Very luxe. Hidden in plain sight amidst the noise of Notting Hill Gate, the room is draped in rich teal with touches of gold.
mood very luxe, rich teal and gold, inspired by Central/South American flavours
You wouldn’t expect a bar on Notting Hill Gate to be this good. Nor would you expect to take a tour across Latin America on a Thursday evening – but that’s what happens at Viajante87. The menu is designed to take you ‘from tourist to local’ via a selection of creative mixes – and, as expected from the sibling to locally loved restaurant Los Mochis, the bar snacks are heavenly (order the taco pato – crispy rice topped with shredded hoisin duck). Everything on the cocktail menu is excellent and worth trying, but we particularly recommend ¿Pechuga Que? (a bittersweet mix made from mezcal the mixologists have distilled themselves) and Synergy, which blends 12-hour-cooked Shiitake mushrooms, coconut, and a side of Amazonian ants (yes, really).
mood A bar that feels like a tour across Latin America.
Viajante87 offers guests a surprising blend of Japanese and Mexican influences. This venue combines an agaveria with an izakaya, resulting in a unique experience. Step inside to find a bar kitted out with luxurious and modern decor while indulging in a selection of classic and innovative signature cocktails, expertly paired with seasonal and sustainable dishes such as falafel, edamame, carnitas, and crispy rice.

Viajante87, a Mexican-Japanese cocktail bar launched by the owners of hit restaurant Los Mochis. Panos Kanatsoulis will oversee a menu of agave-based cocktails at Viajante87, from Frida (La Familia tequila extra anejo, citrus sherbert, chamomile-oregano syrup, rosemary bitters, plum liquor, and champagne) to the Viajante Martini (tequila reposado, bell peppers, fermented mead, green tea sherry). Elsewhere, the drinks offering will feature the Cherry Blanco (tequila blanco, sour cherry marmalade, clarified coca-cola) and the Smoked Earth (The Lost Explorer Mezcal Espadin with lacto-fermented kitchen vegetables, jalapeno, sansho berry pepper, coriander seeds, wasabi distillate, fleur de sel). Many of the bar’s cocktails will be made using waste and off-cuts from Los Mochis. Some bar snacks will accompany the cocktails, from crispy rice topped with the likes of spicy salmon, guacamole and truffle, and habanero teriyaki duck, to fresh guacamole, and a chef’s selection of sashimi.

From the same team behind Mexican-Japanese spot Los Mochis, Viajante 87 is an experimental cocktail bar just moments from Notting Hill Gate station. Centred around an extensive selection of world-class tequila and mezcal, the cocktail list includes a range of signatures, classics and limited-edition specials – overall, there are more than 300 drink options. The must-haves on the menu include their ‘Traveler’s Martini’, made with Tapatio Reposado tequila, The Lost Explorer Salmiana, tropical fruits honey and matcha, and the ‘Smoked Earth’, an unexpected blend of Los Siete Misterios Doba-Yej mezcal, lacto fermented veggies and pink salt. Plus, there’s a killer selection of bar snacks, featuring plenty of imaginative Mexican-Japanese fusion plates.

Hybrid agaveria-izakaya concept Viajante87 opens in Notting Hill. The ‘Agaveria-cum-Izakaya’ is pitched as an “intimate, high-energy hideaway”. Drinks at Viajante87 are overseen by bar director Panos Kanatsoulis... who, from his basement lab space creates cocktails with a low-waste ethos. The late-night bar... will focus on 100% agave-based signature cocktails alongside classics, spanning the spectrum. Viajante87’s bar snacks are billed as 'seasonal and sustainable' and speak to the Japanese element of the restaurant’s theme. The way people consume spirits has changed, they want somewhere fun, dark, and sophisticated where they can let loose, this is the perfect antidote.

Basement Latin-American cocktail bar underneath the Gate cinema; Viajante translates to “traveller” in Spanish. The long drinks list majors on tequila and mezcal (bottles go up to £4 thousand) but there is one bottled beer available. There is an interesting light food menu based on Tex-Mex plus a touch of Japanese. Note restricted opening hours.

Thesleff Group, the London hospitality operator behind Los Mochis and other premium dining concepts, is expanding the role of Viajante87 as a music- and agave-led basement bar. Last September, the award-winning Latin American-inspired cocktail bar Viajante87 introduced Vinyls by V87, a new Thursday night series inspired by listening bars. The programme runs every Thursday from 6pm to 11pm, with DJs playing exclusively on vinyl and spanning Latin, Afro-international, instrumental jazz, funk, soul and lounge sounds. Led by Bar Director Pietro Collina, the initiative brings an additional cultural dimension to a site already leaning heavily into travel, music and agave-led mixology. The bar describes the experience as designed to 'transport guests on a musical journey through eras and genres', while retaining what it calls a 'contemporary West London edge'. During a recent press visit, the broader food offering demonstrated an attention to detail not always associated with cocktail-led venues. Dishes included spicy salmon tartar on crispy rice, guacamole and chips, grilled flank steak tacos with crispy shallots and coriander, and calamari. The overall impression was that the food programme has been developed to support longer dwell times rather than serve as a token add-on.
The headline serve is a build-your-own Margarita, priced according to spirit selection and available with Altos Plata Tequila (£12), Del Maguey Vida Mezcal (£14), or Código 1530 Blanco Tequila (£16). Guests can opt for a classic Margarita with agave, lime, house citrus liqueur and salt, or a Spicy Margarita elevated with a choice of green, yellow or red pepper.

Over in Notting Hill, Viajante87 is a Latin-inspired cocktail bar where every night feels like a grown-up house party. Thursday nights are particularly vibey, with DJs spinning vinyl all evening long. Each week has a different mood, but expect everything from Latin and Afro to jazz and soul.
Dancing shoes are a must, as is a board of chilled mini Margaritas. Viajante87’s take leans into its roots: there’s a poblano chilli-spiked Zaragoza Verde, a fruity Rosalinda with apricot, and a raspberry and purple corn version, all paired with guacamole and chips.

Award-winning restaurateur Markus Thesleff is bringing experimental cocktails to London’s Notting Hill via Mexican Japanese-inspired bar Viajante87. Set to open in late November, the space joins sister lounge Los Mochis in delivering Baja-Nihon energy through all elements, including cocktail, design, and bar bites. The late-night destination will focus on 100% agave-based signature cocktails alongside all the classics. Viajante87 focuses on showcasing sustainability and zero-waste wherever possible, as such, waste and off-cuts will be repurposed and recycled within the drinks program. The subterranean enclave features banquettes snaking around the main room with velvet stools hidden in dark, and intimate corners. The 1,500sq ft Agaveria-cum-Izakaya will bring a new concept to the West London landscape, where Tokyo meets Tulum, embodying the famed exclusive bars of a bygone era. Music will play an integral role at Viajante87, where a 2am licence and extensive DJ programme of tribal house beats inspired by global travel will create a cool atmosphere.

Viajante87 is going Latin. The new cocktail list will be divided into five sections, starting with 'travel' before moving to 'clarity' and beyond. Ingredients used will include Brazilian seeds, Peruvian purple corn, and spirits from across the continent. The bar say it may be the coldest martini in London.

Notting Hill recently welcomed Viajante87. Created by the team behind Los Mochis next door, the Mexican-Japanese bar has its own mixology lab in the basement creating experimental and zero-waste drinks. Guests can sit on swanky banquettes and velvet stools with unique interiors – think Tokyo meets Tulum – to enjoy agave-based cocktails. Highlights include the ‘Frida’ made with Altos tequila reposado, citrus sherbet, plum and champagne; and the ‘Mango Zapoteca’ with Crystal Head Blue Agave vodka, mango and sesame. You can also choose from the team’s fusion snacks, like steamed edamame with chipotle chilli garlic, fried chicken wings with habanero-gochujang, and ‘Falafelito’ (fried chickpeas with coriander, parsley and lime). Every weekend, DJs mix tribal house beats with soul classics.

We’re heading back to Notting Hill for Viajante, a Latin American-inspired cocktail bar that has an unbeatable selection of tequilas. Although intimate and cosy, the vibes are always electric and it’s a great place to kick-start any night out with a bang. Make your way down the dark and mysterious stairway for some seriously superb drinks, all of which are expertly crafted by their mixologists. The dim lights, occasional live DJ, and relaxed atmosphere make it a great option for date night, or some well-earned, post-work drinks with friends.

If anyone ever tells you it’s not sustainable to regularly drink loads of agave cocktails in cool, subterranean bars, point them towards Viajante87. Newly opened, it’s one of our favourite bars in Notting Hill – the signature cocktails have been created with an emphasis on zero-waste, like the pink salt-rimmed Smoked Earth; made using lacto-fermented vegetables from the kitchen like beetroot and red cabbage. These all, of course, also feature a potent dose of tequila and mezcal as the base (with both sometimes shaken/mixed together in the same drink).

Coming in at number 17 in the prestigious Top 50 Cocktail Bars list for 2025, Viajante87 is one of London’s buzziest bars right now. Tucked away beside Japanese-Mexican fusion restaurant Los Mochis (more on that below), it does an excellent spicy marg, made with Patrón Silver Tequila and house citrus liqueur, a choice of green, yellow or red pepper tinctures, depending on your preferred level of spice.
